In the middle of social and political discontent in 19th century France, a convicted thief known by the name of Jean Valjean escapes his parole after a significant period of time incarcerated. Due to a fortunate, albeit lucky, series of events, Jean Valjean is free to fully escape the law and invents a brand new identity as Monsieur Madeleine, eventually attaining the positions of a factory owner and a mayor. Though previously successful in evading the law and his rival Javert, he is inevitably involved in the uprising of the commoners of Paris, wherein Valjean is compelled to find answers that would affect both himself and his adopted daughter, Cosette.

This tale from Victor Hugo's novel, one of sacrifice and passion, has been running for roughly 40 years in a number of theaters over many different countries. Ever since its first showing on the live stage in the 1980s, it has deservingly been referred to not just as one of the most breathtaking musicals of this generation, but also one of the highly nominated and most-awarded too. In 1987 by itself, it topped the nominations and awards of the Tonys, with 12 nominations in total and 8 out of 12 wins. Les Misérables obtained awards as Best Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Featured Actor and Actress in a Musical, Best Scenic Design, and Best Lighting Design. Later on, the box office hit continued to garner awards and nominations in its subsequent productions in Australian, Toronto, and Broadway productions consisting of the Green Room Awards, Helpmann Awards, Dora Awards, and of course, Tony Awards once again.

Currently, Les Mis has achieved an audience of over 130 million people globally, touring 53 different countries and performed in a huge variety of 22 different languages. These statistics are expected to rise exponentially, particularly with the global musical now also arriving in Texas and expected to perform in Bass Concert Hall, Austin on Thursday 6th February 2025. With space, facilities, and stage design that can rival any venue in Broadway and West End, Bass Concert Hall is assuredly the favorite venue to have this sure-to-be memorable season of Les Mis.
