This March, Hamilton will be performing in Bass Concert Hall, the highly praised theatre of Austin and the No.1 possible theatre for this spectacular show. The critically acclaimed and multi-award winning show travels to you to tell its outstanding tale from city to city all over the Country.

Debuting off Broadway in 2015, The Musical was not the instant Broadway play that it is now. Lin-Manuel Miranda has talked candidly about its beginnings, starting as a concept album in 2009, with Miranda saying that he was “thrilled that the White House called me tonight, because I’m actually working on a hip-hop album. It's a concept album about the life of someone I think embodies hip-hop: treasury secretary Alexander Hamilton.” That singular performance elicited praise and a well-deserved standing ovation from his crowd at the time, as well as former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, and has led to Miranda’s production of the Hamilton musical we know now.

Due to his previous experience in musical theater, Lin-Manuel Miranda has also gained influences from other great theater pieces such as Les Misérables, which holds to a common theme that tells the story of a struggle, and succeeding from that struggle, instead of the usual musical theatre biases that follow the trend of being very uplifting and happy. Similarly Hamilton, being about the difficulties arising as an orphaned immigrant from the Caribbean who climbed the ladder and became the first U.S. Treasury Secretary. With the greatest respect to its source material, the Musical shows us both the good and bad in Alexander Hamilton’s rise to power, by not only giving us a look into his character and struggle, but also his influence and effect in being able to powerfully shape America during its time period.

With its story, Hamilton continues to prove its importance in our modern culture and even on the international stage, confronting questions and issues that are very relevant not only to America, but also globally. Even the use of musical styles of hip hop, jazz, and R&B as the productions score has cemented its place in pop culture, making it one of the most exciting hit Austin musicals today.
