Show creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, fresh off the huge success from his last Broadway show, In the Heights, conceptualized Hamilton for a number of years before it opened in the Richard Rodgers Theatre in 2015. It was in this first run that Miranda also acted the role of Hamilton. The entirety of the Musical, including its talented cast and incredible score received extremely positive feedback from both critics and the audiences alike.
Hamilton, as most know, is a historical story created about one of Americas Founding Fathers, but Hamilton takes a fresh and forward-thinking approach, as seen in the music styles chosen and especially in its multicultural cast. Also, the 70th Tony Awards, where Hamilton collected 11 out of 16 nominations, is a display of its success. the Musical’s debut cast consisted of the actors and actresses, Philippa Soo, Leslie Odom Jr., and Jonathan Groff. Individually, the cast was already filled with both notable nominees and previous award winners, but their varied and strong performances taken collectively brought Hamilton to a brand-new level. The production team, just as extremely talented, took home Tony Awards for the show. Thomas Kail for Best Direction, Andy Blankenbuehler for Best Choreography, Alex Lacamoire for Best Orchestrations, Howell Binkley for Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Paul Tazewell for Best Costume Design of a Musical, and of course Lin-Manuel Miranda himself for Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical, all topped the 2016 Tony Awards. Above all and unsurprisingly, Hamilton also took home Best Musical for the year. The present cast and production crew in each new venue where Hamilton is on tour brings the same energy and inspiration in their performances, with favorable reviews maintained regularly.
Hamilton’s unceasing rise to fame led to opening many doors worldwide for the fans to experience Hamilton. It has continued for the past 10 years to perform not just on Broadway, but also over in the UK's West End and in numerous entertainment venues across Asia. Hamilton’s limited season will be heading to Austin throughout March (and on Saturday 29th March 2025) at Bass Concert Hall, performing at yet another world-class stage with the best facilities and sound engineering that rivals even Broadway and West End theaters.
